Mystery Fandom Theater FAQ

What is MFT3K all about? I don't get it.

MFT3K is based on the popular television series Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is a production done by some fans of the show, in the style of the original. It's not a spoof or parody of MST3K, but a project done as an extension of the show.

What is MST3K?

If you don't know what MST3K is, then you've probably arrived at this web site through some sort of freak accident. Our apologies. In short, though, the show is designed around the concept of a guy and his two robot pals watching a really bad movie and providing sarcastic running commentary. It's funnier than it sounds, trust me.

So why are you doing this, anyway?

Well, unfortunately MST3K has been taken out of production, so those of us who would like to see new material have to create it ourselves. And there are still so many bad movies out there deserving of mockery... Well, it sounded like fun, so we thought we'd try our hands at it! (We had no idea what we were getting into.)

How many episodes are you planning to produce?

Our original intention was to produce at least three, which we have now done. We have had great fun producing those three, so we're definitely considering producing more.

How do your episodes fit into the show's timeline?

The material we're working on at the moment is designed to fit roughly between seasons 5 and 6 of MST3K. This means that episodes will feature Mike, Forrester, and Frank. For at least our first couple shows, there will be invention exchanges.

Where can I see your episodes?

They are shown from time to time at local sci-fi/fantasy conventions, such as BayCon and Further Confusion.

We will not be directly distributing episodes over the Internet, due to technical limitations; and anyway, we think it's more fun to gather groups and watch videos.

If you have other suggestions for venues or specific conventions where you would like to see our episodes, please let us know.

How can I get tapes of your episodes? Can I buy them?

We do not sell our products; we are a non-business non-profit group of fans. We freely distribute copies of our episodes at cost. Currently, we distribute only in DVD format. If you want copies of our work, here's how to get them:

At conventions: As we work out what conventions our members will be attending, we'll post that information on this site. If you can make it to one of these conventions, look us up there. Hand us a blank DVD and we'll hand you an episode!

By mail: Send us email (mft3000 AT yahoo DOT com) and tell us you're interested in acquiring an episode by mail! Include your postal address and which episode you want a copy of. We'll work out the cost of postage and the blank disc, to cover our expenses. Then send a check to the address we provide and you'll receive your copy in the mail ASAP.

Are you nuts?

Quite probably.
